Day 1: Taxi From Taoyuan to Taipei

After a short 4:30 hrs flight and going through the customs, I'd just want to head straight to my hotel in Taipei. Turning left after clearing immigration, there were adequate signs to point me towards the directions of the taxi stand. These taxis, called the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Taxi are specifically set aside to drive passengers from the airport to their other destination. Other normal taxis can drop passengers off, but are not allowed to pick up passengers from the airport as they will be faced with a NT9000 (S$350) fine. The taxis are generally clean and the drivers themselves are pretty honest.

My wife and I entered Mr Wang Shu An's taxi and this guy has something going with technology. GPS, Car camera, speed trap warning, customised digital speed display, anything more and I'd thought that he's the brother of James Bond.

One thing is that there was no surcharge for early pick-up. We took the taxi at about 5:50am. Traffic from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei was also smooth and it took just 45minutes. Total cost of the trip was NT1150 (S$48).
